How is Mangal dosha cancelled?

We discussed the occurrence of Mangal dosha in Janma kundli in the previous article. There we also talked about the unjustified hype around this Manglik dosha and why such hype is irrelevant. The basic understanding point was that if we go by the partial understanding of the definition for Mangal dosha, we will find that more than 50% of the total populations will have Mangal dosha in their birth chart when checked from both Janma Lagan and Moon.

Let us revise the definition criteria for Mangal dosha. For a Mangal dosha to be fully functional in a birth kundli:

  1. Planet Mars is should be placed in the 1st house (Lagna), 2nd house, 4th house, 7th house, 8th house or the 12th house of the kundli.
  2. Mars should possess a strong functional malefic character as well for the kundli in question.

What we have understood so far is that, for an astrologer or anyone trying to check for Mangal dosha in the kundli. It is easy to implement the first criteria of Mangal dosha. But it is always hard to qualify the kundli for the second criteria of the Manglik dosha definition.

As we said before if we go only by the basic understanding of Mangal dosha. Every 2nd person on the earth will be a Manglik person. But does that means every other person will face the fate of Bad married life? This is certainly not the case.

Therefore, the second criteria of analysing the potential harming capacity of the planet Mars in the said Mangal dosha is very important. And the understanding of this second criteria will help us understand the conditions for Manglik dosha cancellation.

In the following article, we will see how the Mangal dosha is cancelled and which Janma Lagna (Ascendant) are naturally more immune to Mangal dosha.

There are different conditions and combinations which are capable of neutralising the evil effects of Mars dosha and can strongly promote the Mangal dosha cancellation.

Rules and conditions for the Manglik dosha cancellation check:

1. When Mars happens to be sitting in its own signs, Aries and Scorpio, or in its sign of exaltation, Capricorn, there is no Mangal dosha for that case.

2. Extending rule No. 1 we get the following possibilities for the Mangal dosha cancellation:

a. When Mars occupies Aries sign for Pisces Lagna.

b. When Mars occupies Capricorn sign for Sagittarius Lagna.

c. When Mars occupies Scorpio sign for Leo Lagna.

d. When Mars occupies Scorpio sign for Taurus Lagna.

e. When Mars occupies Scorpio sign for Aries Lagna.

f. When Mars occupies Scorpio sign for Libra Lagna.

g. When Mars occupies Scorpio sign for Sagittarius Lagna.

h. When Mars occupies Aries sign for Capricorn Lagna.

i. When Mars occupies Aries sign for Libra Lagna.

j. When Mars occupies Aries sign for Virgo Lagna.

k. When Mars occupies Aries sign for Scorpio Lagna.

l. When Mars occupies Capricorn sign for Libra Lagna

m. When Mars occupies Capricorn sign for Cancer Lagna.

n. When Mars occupies Capricorn sign for Gemini Lagna.

o. When Mars occupies Capricorn sign for Aquarius Lagna.

p. When Mars occupies a sign of Aries, Scorpio or Capricorn for the same Lagna respectively in the first house, the Mangal dosha is nullified.

3. Moon and Venus are soft planets in nature. They display feminine qualities and hence are very good for domestic harmony in someone's family and marital life. The second house denotes one's family. When Moon and Venus are together in the 2nd house the evil effects of Manglik dosha are reduced.

4. If Mars occupies the 2nd house which is ruled by planet Mercury, the Mars dosha is cancelled.

5. Influence of Benefic Jupiter: The planet Jupiter in vedic astrology is said to reduce any malefic factors of the birth chart when positioned in such a way. The same applies to the chart of Manglik person as well. When Mars is in conjunction with Jupiter or is under the aspect of Jupiter, it loses its malefic qualities for Mangal dosha and Mangal dosha is cancelled.

6. If Chandra-Mangal yoga occurs in a good house, the Manglik dosha is nullified. The Chandra-Mangal yoga is a benefic yoga. If this yoga occurs in good houses like trikona or Kendra house, it is very good for the overall kundli. For example, Chandra-Mangal yoga in the fourth house or seventh house does not cause Manglik dosha, even when planet Mars is occupying the 4th house or 7th house.

7. Mangal dosha cancellation by Saturn: Planet Saturn in some special positions in Kundli has the ability to nullify the effects of Mangal dosha. If Saturn is situated in the 1st house, 4th house, 7th house, 8th house or the 12th house from Lagna. The Mangal dosha is cancelled.

8. Mangal dosha cancellation by Angarak yoga: If Mars and Rahu are together in conjunction, the Mangal dosha is cancelled.

9. If Mars occupies the 7th house when Lagna lord is Saturn the effects of Manglik dosha are nullified.

10. When Mars occupies the 7th house in the sign of Cancer or the sign of Capricorn, Manglik dosha is cancelled.

11. Mangal dosha cancellation for Mars in the 12th house occurs when Mars occupies the 12th house and is in the sign of Venus.

12. Mangal dosha cancellation for Mars in the 8th house occurs when Mars occupies the 8th house and is in the sign of Jupiter.

13. There is no Mangal dosha when Mars occupies a sign of Cancer in Aries Lagna.

14. There is no Mangal dosha when Mars occupies the sign of Aquarius for the Scorpio Lagna.

15. Leo Lagna is fully immune to Manglik dosha. Mars at any position does not cause Mangal dosha for Leo Ascendant.

Conclusion

So what we can conclude after checking and analysing Manglik dosha cancellation rules is that Mars needs to be forming and exhibiting a complete bad role in someone's kundli to really affect that person's marital life and marital bliss. Mars by merely sitting in 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 12th or the 1st house does not cause you to suffer the bad effects of Mangal dosha.

Summing up all the conditions and rules which helps us check the nullifications of Mangal dosha are compiled into a table below.

Lagna House Occupied by Mars
1st 2nd 4th 7th 8th 12th
Aries -- dosha -- -- -- --
Taurus dosha -- -- -- -- --
Gemini dosha -- dosha dosha -- --
Cancer -- -- -- -- dosha --
Leo -- -- -- -- -- --
Virgo dosha dosha dosha dosha -- --

Scorpio -- dosha -- -- dosha --
Sagittarius dosha -- dosha dosha -- --
Capricorn -- dosha -- -- -- dosha
Aquarius dosha dosha -- -- -- --
Pisces dosha -- dosha dosha -- dosha

The table comprehensively covers for all the Ascendants (Lagnas) the possible places for Mars where the Mangal dosha is nullified and where the Mangal dosha is retained. This table was initially complied by Astrologer G.S Agarwal in his book Practical Vedic Astrology by extracting the specific Mangal dosha described for various Lagnas in the classical texts of Jyotisha.
