Kahala is a large drum, and there are varieties of yogas which goes by this name. Some are detailed below.
Jataka Parijata’s two different versions of Kahala Yog :
Definitions
First :
“If the lords of the 9th and the 4th house are in angle positions with respect to each other and if the lord of the Lagna is strong, the Yog produced is Kahala Yog.”
Second :
“If the lord of the 4th house is in its own or exaltation sign and is conjunct with the lord of the 10th house, the same Yog is formed.”
Parasara Hora similarly defines this Yog and describes it as follows :
Description
“A person born in Kahala Yog is energetic, courageous, crafty and he will be a chief of four kind of armies and lord of few villages.”
The Yog which goes by same name appears in Phaladipika. Here it is define as per the dispositorship principle which forms basis of some yogas like Parvata Yog, but this principle pushed one step further :
Definition
“Note where the lord of the sign occupied by the lord of the ascendent is posited. If the lord of this sign is in his exaltation or own sign in a trine or angle house, the Yog formed is called Kahala Yog.”
How Kahala Yog’s definition varies from the definition of Parvata Yog ?
Simplified : Lagna lord (1) >> Lord (2) of sign where Lagna lord resides >> Lord (3) of the sign where Lagna lord’s dispositor (2) resides.
Here we have to examine this 3rd participator’s dignity.
Then Phaladipika defines it as follows :
Description
“The native born with Kahala Yog in his birth chart is wise, prosperous, cheerful, benevolent, noble, kind and propitious. He is respected by his fellow beings.”
