Explanation
Word “Vasumati” literally translates down to “rich” or “possession of rich”. It is a Yog which involves Upachaya houses, 3, 6, 10 and 11, and natural benefic.
Upachaya houses are known for growth and expansion, whereas natural benefics are prosperity giver by their basic nature, and they also indicate good things in life in general. Then the placement of prosperity giver planets into growth houses can be related to growth in prosperity, hence growth in wealth. One of the basic interpretive principles in Jyotisha also say that natural benefics occupying a house increases its favourable indications.
The well known classical vedic astrology texts, Phaladipika and Brihat Jataka has following definitions and descriptions.
Phaladipika
“When all the auspicious planets are posited in upachaya houses, whether reckoned from the Ascendent or the Moon, the resulting Yog is called Vasumati.
If in any nativity (birth chart) the Vasumati Yog is formed then the native concerned will confine himself to his house and be wealthy.”
Brihat Jataka
“In case the entire lot of the natural benefic planet is located in the upachaya houses from the Ascendant and the Moon the man is extremely rich.
If two of the benefics are so located he is highly rich. If only one is in these houses he is only moderately rich.
This Yog has over-riding powers in as much as it makes a man rich even if he is born in Kemadruma Yog”
Lets take a look on how natural benefics can benefit various Upachaya houses under this Yog or in general.
- The 3rd house is the house of initiative and therefore it keeps potentials to give wealth through one's own efforts.
- The 6th house is the house of enemies and diseases, and influence of good planets over here mean freedom from disease and triumph over enemies/competitors.
- The 10th house relates to career, status and position.
- And the 11th house rules all kind of gains.
