Sankha Yog

Strong Lagna lord and 5th & 6th lords in mutual angles causes one of the type of Sankha Yog.

Sankha means conch shell, which in ancient India was used as a trumpet in ritual practices and on the battlefield as well. It was used to eradicate bad vibes in first case and as a symbol of power and authority in latter one.

Definitions

This Yog is defined in classical text Parasara Hora in two different ways as follows :

“When the Lagna lord is strong, and the 5th and the 6th lords are in mutual angles,
or
When the 9th lord is strong, and the Lagna lord and the 10th lord are together in moveable signs, the Yog caused is Sankha Yog.”

Description

“The person born in the Sankha yog will be endowed with wealth, wife and sons, be of kindly nature, propitious, intelligent, doer of virtuous deeds and long-lived.”

Notes

The Sankha is one of many yogas demanding a strong Lagna lord. The Lagna is usually strong under following conditions :

  1. When it has good dignity like placement in exalted and own sign.
  2. When it is placed in a strong house like in angle houses (kendra) or trine houses (trikone).
  3. Other strengths like vargottama position in navamsa divisional chart, etc.
