Any kind of partnership is ruled by 7th house and 7th lord. The 7th house is one of the kendra house, opposite to Ascendent (indicator of self) and represents the significant others in someone’s life - spouse belongs to this category. Even the partnership of life falls under the territory of 7th house and 7th lord.
The condition of 7th lord and 7th house informs much about type of spouse and happiness from spouse or happiness from marriage. Venus the karaka of wife, marital happiness and pleasures plays a significant role too. But below we will solely talk about the indications of wife from 7th house and its lord.

Note : verses below only mentions about wife but are equally applicable to husband as well, since they speak of spouse in general.
7th lord and marital fruits
Phaladipika
“Should the lord of the 7th house be a benefic endowed with strength, the native will have a wife who will be of good character and will bear children.”
“Even if a malefic, the lord of 7th be posited in 7th house will bless the native with a good wife.”
Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra
“If the 7th lord is strong and is in conjunction with benefic planets or is aspected by them, then the native will be wealthy, honourable, happy and fortunate. And in case the 7th lord is weak, is in his sign of debilitation, is in an enemy’s sign or is combust, the wife of such native is sickly and he will have many wives.”
“The 7th lord is placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th house and is not in his own sign or in his sign of exaltation, the combination causes the native’s wife sickly.”
“When the 7th lord is in a sign of Saturn or Venus and he is aspected by a benefic planet, the native will have many wives. He will also have many wives in case of the 7th lord is particularly in his exaltation sign.”

The 7th lord as benefic or malefic
- The 7th lord when happens to be a benefic and has some source strengths like in own/exalted sign, in vargottama navamsa or hemmed by benefics on both side, such conditions will assure native a beautiful wife with modesty and noble character. This will also enable native with happiness, fortune and children.
- If the benefic planet as 7th lord is devoid of strength, it may give modest and obeying wife, but the person will be unable to enjoy the good fruits of married life or some obstacles will harm the Sukh (happiness and fulfilment) of marriage. The results will be further tarnished if lord of the 7th is malefic along with above given conditions.
- No matter even if the lord of the 7th house is a benefic or a malefic, it will give native a very good wife when 7th lord is posited in 7th house. The idea behind this is - the house lord always acts as a benefic when placed in own house.
Indications for many wives : Good or bad ?
The two verses from Brihat Parasara Hora given above states contradictory statements.
One says when 7th lord is weak or debilitated it will give many wives.
And the last one describes many wives in fate, when 7th lord is exalted.
Note, the underlying facts that when this classical texts were composed : Polygamy(or having many wives) was not socially as unacceptable as it is today. Of course this verses are society and time depended, and tend to change slightly in results with change of time and social acceptance.
Hence, the results of “having many wives” may modify as below.
- When many wives indicated with debilitated and ill placed 7th lord, it can be predicted that native will have relations outside of marriage which can spoil a happy married life.
- And such indications with good placed and exalted 7th lord means many opportunities for native to have marriage or build a marriage like relationships. It shows abundant happiness (or pleasures) from marriage.
Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra
“Should the 7th lord be in his own sign or in his sign of exaltation, the astrologer should predict to the native, full happiness through his wife.”
“If the 7th lord is in his sign of exaltation and the 7th house is occupied by a benefic planet and the strong Ascendent lord is placed in the 7th house, the native’s wife will be endowed with virtues and will expand his dynasty by begetting sons and having grand sons.”

Happiness from Wife
- A strong and beneficially placed 7th lord ensures complete marital happiness from wife. The beneficially placed 7th lord meaning when he is placed in good houses like angle or trine, or placed placed with lords of good houses, or having the influence of benefics by conjunction or aspect.
- When all 7th house factors are favourable like in the last verse, where 7th lord is very strong by sign placement, natural and functional benefices in 7th house (Ascendent lord is the best functional benefic for most of the ascendents) it will amplify the good effects of the house and person’s wife will not only bring happiness to him, but to his whole family or dynasty.
