Rules to interpret Good or Bad effects of the planet due to house lordship

Core Principles of Jyotisha on house rulership

The house lordship and it’s effects therefore, is one of the prime factors why vedic astrology is so unique on its own. And these Interpretive Principles for different house lords makes Jyotisha so diversified in describing results, even though the planets and signs remains same for every born individual.

There are so many questions among Jyotisha enthusiasts, the answers to which forms the part of Authoritative principles of Indian astrology and such questions are spread across internet.

Sage Parasara in his Great work “Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra” on Jyotisha answers many of these Questions. Let’s have a look on some of those verses by Sage Parasara.

What is Kendradhipati Dosha ? OR
How natural benefics suffer from ruling a Kendra house (angle house) ?

Natural benefics ruling the angle houses do not give auspicious results, while natural malefics ruling the angle houses do not give inauspicious effects.

The concept of Kendradhipati Dosha is a segment out of astrological phenomenon which states that, a benefic planet will shade of it’s benefic effects for native when it rule an angle house.

On the other hand, a malefic planet will not give bad effects when it happens to rule a Kendra house.

Do lord of Trine houses (trikone houses) give benefic effects even if they are malefic planets ?

The lords of the trines (whether a natural benefic or malefic) give auspicious effects.

This means lord of trine houses (1st, 5th, 9th) are always functional benefics for any ascendant.

Being an angle and a trine both, the ascendant in particular bestows good results.

It answers us that, an Ascendant lord is always a benefic planet for that particular Ascendant. And the fact that Ascendant Lord doesn’t suffers Kendradhipati Dosha (by being a trine lord at the same time).

Which planets are the best wealth givers in astrology ? OR
Which houses are the best for acquiring riches ?

The 5th and the 9th houses are especially related to wealth.

This single verse from Sage gives so much importance to 5th and 9th lord, and 5th and 9th house birth chart. Not to forget that trine lords are given much importance in the matter of wealth along with 2nd and 11th lord.

Which houses in astrology are related to happiness ?

The 7th and 10th houses are related to happiness.

It shades light on the importance of Career (Job), and Life partner (spouse) in the life of native. Since, they are also the prime factors which effects the happiness of a person.

Which are the evil houses in vedic astrology ?

Generally the Trik houses (6th, 8th, 12th) are considered bad houses.
But if you ask a wise astrologer this same question. He will answers as “it depends”.

Lets see on what factor it depends from the verses.

All the planets ruling the trisadaya (3rd, 6th and 11th houses) are known as giver of inauspicious effects.

The rulers of 2nd, 12th, and 8th houses bestow results according to their association with other house lords and according to the other house they rule.

And they are stronger in their qualities in the ascending order. (2nd lord < 12th lord < 8th lord)

Among these, the 8th lord is not auspicious because he owns the 12th house from the 9th house.

And if he (the 8th lord) is also the lord of the 3rd, 6th or 11th house simultaneously he becomes even more inauspicious.

But if he is also the lord of a trine (1st, 5th, 9th) he becomes more auspicious in giving effects.

Among the combination thus stated, the stronger will obstruct the weaker.

How the rulership of 8th house effects sun and moon ?

Here, there is no fault for the Sun and Moon in ruling the eighth house.

Which planets are natural benefics and which planets are the natural malefics in astrology ?

Jupiter and Venus are said to be natural benefics, while the Moon is said to be mediocre.

Mercury is neutral.

And the Sun, Saturn and Mars are natural malefics.

Full Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus are increasingly powerful as natural benefic. (Full Moon < Mercury < Jupiter < Venus)

Remember Venus is considered the best giver in least efforts in vedic astrology.

A dark Moon, the Sun, Saturn and Mars are likewise increasingly powerful as natural malefic.

This verse makes Mars (not Saturn) the worst malefic of astrological world.

Which planet suffers the most in Kendradhipati Dosha ?

The fault, which has been ascribed to benefics in ruling angles (kendradhipati dosha), is increasingly powerful in the Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus.

Venus suffers the most when in Kendradhipati dosh.

Do malefics ruling angle (kendra) houses become good planets ?

The good effects ascribed to natural malefics when they rule angles exists only when they simultaneously rule trines, and not by their merely ruling angles.

Thus a malefic planet can become exclusively auspicious only when he is a Yogakara. (Mars for Cancer and Leo, Saturn for Taurus and Virgo ascendants.)

What happens when an angle or a trine lord also rules bad houses in birth chart ?

If an angular lord or a trinal lord is simultaneously the lord of any malefic houses (3,6,11), a man thus born does not get raja yog by their mere connection.

What effects Rahu and Ketu gives in any particular house in a birth chart ?

The shadowy planets Rahu and Ketu give predominantly the effects of the ruler of the houses with who they are in conjunction, or of the house in which they are situated.

How auspicious (good) yogas are made in birth chart ?

Following verses describes which conditions brings fortunate yogas for a person.

If the ruler of an angle and the ruler of a trine occupy each other’s house (meaning there is an exchange of house between them).

Or, if they are in conjunction in a house.

Or, if either of them occupies the other’s house.

Or, if they are in mutual aspect, they are yogakarakas (they cause auspicious combinations.)

In these yogas, a king is born or a commoner attains fame.

If one planet ruling a trine also becomes the ruler of an angle, and occupies either an angle or a trine, it becomes a singular yogakaraka. (able to give to auspicious result alone.)
