Viparita Raja Yogas

The combination for an unconventional king - Dussthana lord (6th, 8th or 12th lord) placed in other (or same) Dussthana house gives favourable results.

The word “Viparita” also means “Unconventional”, whereas Viparita Raja Yog is stated by sages as an unconventional form of Raja Yog which can bestow native status, wealth and shashan (rulership).

The reason these type of Raja yogas are so called as unconventional is because unlike other raja yogas, these do not involve good houses lords like angles (kendras) and trines (trikones) lord. But the weird fact is these yogas are formed by the dussthanas lords (the 6th, 8th and 12th lord).

The classical text Uttara Kalamrita refers about them in the following verses.

Definition

“The lord of the 8th in 6th or in 12th house, the lord of the 6th in 8th or in 12th house and the lord of 12th in 6th or 8th house from the Ascendant gives rise to extraordinary Raja Yogas provided these lords are mutually related by conjunction or by mutual aspect or by mutual exchange of sign, and at the same time do not relate with any other planet (i.e. any other house lord); and in case all three are involved then a very powerful Raja yoga will arise.”

This definition can be break down as below for the ease of understanding.

  1. When the lords of the Trik houses, 6th, 8th or 12th lord are placed in other Trik house, this can produce good results.
  2. Provided they are related to other Trik house lords either by conjunction, mutual aspect or exchange of signs placement.
  3. They should not be related to any house lords other than Trik lords.
  4. If all the Trik house lords are somehow connected, then a very powerful Raja Yog is formed.

Description

“This Viparita Raja Yogas can confer learning, longevity, fame and prosperity, illustrious friends, success in all ventures and victory over foes. Enhanced status and financial stability in the dasa of the planet causing this yog, and such results are also witnessed in the dasa of the planet associating with it.”

Notes

Why a bad house lord like dussthanas lords (6th lord, 8th lord and 12th lord) produce good results when placed in bad house ?

The answer for this question may align with the standard interpretive principle which says that the lords of a bad or inauspicious houses destroy the significations of the houses they occupy. So logically when these lords occupy other bad houses (dussthanas), the bad results are destroyed.

Why some astrologers are of opinion that Viparita Raja Yogas are slightly more powerful than conventional Raja yogas ?

The idea behind conventional Raja Yogas is, a good house lord can enhance the good effects of the house it is placed in. So placement of good house lord into other good is definately good. But in the overall birth chart context, conventional Raja yogas play the role of healing or providing auspicious results, and Viparita Raja yogas plays the role of obstructing Bad (inauspicious) results. They are like immune protection towards birth chart.

Bottom line - Everyone faces troubles once in a life. In this case better immune to adversities have a slight upper hand to better conveyances to protect or to recover. Still which one of both is more powerful is a debatable topic.

Remember that Viparita Raja Yogas do causes success mixed into struggle and stress (which are natural significations of Trik houses).
