When it comes to Indian astrology also known as vedic astrology or Jyotisha, it is an exciting subject to many, have the tons of information online as blogs, Quora answers and social media posts, plus there are thousands of peoples trying to have a close look into their near futures with the help of these astrological fundamentals.
When anyone asks me what is the quickest way to learn astrology or which is best book to learn it. I don’t usually answer them in a BOLD way. But I say here Boldly that there is no such thing like quickest way or best book. This even apply on learning anything in the world, any skill sets. It takes time. But when you access a very non academic subjects like astrology there are far more chances of getting into aimless wandering. A proper way of learning this wide subject of Jyotisha might not make it a quick learn, but can save plenty of time spent on aimless wondering from book to book, or article to article.
What mistakes does the new learners and enthusiasts of Astrology make ?
Since I was one of those people who went through hundreds of google searches in quest of learning more and more about astrology, going from one article to another article online. After some time when it does not help to quench my trust of knowing more about astrology or jyotisha or anything related to Indian or western astrology, I bought some books, not read it completely, then brought some other books. I continued it for a span of time. By that time I had a small collection of books on vedic astrology which included some classical treatise on Hindu astrology too.
As every new astrology learner I read a part of book which make sense to my mind, then took another book and repeated the same. The online information was far too limited to learn astrology. The basic was very clearly and readily available on internet. Like exaltation and debilitation signs for planet, houses owned by planets, some information about enmity and friendship between planets, the Yogas and Raja yoga and basics about Dashas.
But even after knowing these information and playing around with my birth chart I was not able to make anything worthy from it. Some yogas I do believed existed in my birth chart. But I didn’t know how and when they would affect me. Just reading some concepts and then trying them to apply on my own birth chart was quite exciting now as it was in beginning when I stated with astrology.
So at the end I had books, I have spent some time every few days a week, Knew the very basics of vedic astrology, but was still unable to say something for sure about my own birth chart.
I knew the stuff like, this planet exalted in my chart, other one in own sign and which planet is where in kundli and what dasha I’m running through.
I WAS JUST A SMALL STEP AWAY FROM THE POINT after which everything could make sense.
Like myself back then, many peoples today know each basic about astrology, but are unable to make anything useful out of it.
It was only after spending some more time, and putting more hard work into it. I discovered the correct mind-set required to access and utilise those informations. This mindset about astrology gave me a proper way to learn it and helped me develop the vision an astrologer is required to develop.
What is required to learn Astrology ?
One line Answer is : A stable Mind and Correct mind-set.
Descriptive answer : The astrology is a kind of study of relativity. It relates your life experiences with the planetary positions during the time of your birth. You need to know life well to know about astrology well OR a good understanding of astrology gives you good understanding of life. A astrologer who is under the guidance of a Jyotisha Guru is told to observe the birth chart owner and his life event. The more and more he does this, the more he is able to connect with the astrological fundamental which might be the cause for certain life experiences. These are the things an experienced person practicing astrology may discover, after spending years in astrology and being gone through hundreds of birth charts.
It is all about person. And that is why I said a stable mind and a correct mind set.
Before being able to analyse a bind birth chart (a chart of person unknown to astrologer), an astrologer by practicing relativity between person and his birth chart has developed the VISION, which is the most important in saying or speculating anything about future.
It is being said by vedic science experts like Vastu practitioner, Jyotishis, Palmists etc. that everything around you and everything in you (even your small body cell) knows about your PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE. It is only you who is unaware of it.
The another way to say it is - everything in this Universe is connected. This is why it has being observed that a family who is about to become prosperous and happy will witness some changes in their Home Vastu. And how some dasha of planets brings RISE in life and some other dasha may bring DOWN FALL.
Once a person know these things, and is able to connect the indications shown by birth chart with life events and general fortune. It is then said he has achieved the VISION to see like an astrologer.
Of course the books and the classic treatises by learned astrologers and wise Sages are important. But they will only serve as tools. The real powers of foreseeing future comes from within you. It is the person who has those powers, astrolgy will only serve as a medium by which those extraordinary powers are expressed.
Hence, a correct guidance is needed to develop a correct mind-set and maintain a stable Mind. These altogether helps anyone to harness the powers of words written in the astrological books.
How much time is required to become good astrologer ? (Self study VS learning under Guidance)
One line Answer : It takes some years at least.
Descriptive answer : Learning astrology is not only about predicting future. It is a whole capacity to look into someone’s past, present and future. But these is when a person becomes pro into it OR we can say when he acquires the skill set and essence of astrology.
YES, it takes time depending upon a person and things available to him.
What happens when some one studies with the only company of astrology book (Self study astrology) ?
Answer : From my personal experiences, a person read books one after another, try to apply them on birth charts, and this process repeatedly goes on for months and for years until that person starts to make sense of astrological words and verses OR in other words starts to connect astrological facts and fundamental with real life situation. This is when he gets power of experience and wisdom of vision. But this takes time and a lot of dedication. In some or the many cases it even causes frustration, because this subject is wide and references can be tricky many of time, but are not mostly incorrect. It is just the matter of point of views.
So learning with a book takes time until you develop your mind, your self in the ways required to understand core secrets of astrology. Plus it also takes time to find right book.
How learning astrology under the guidance of learned Guru or under proper systematic guidance works ?
Answer : One of main advantages in learning such sacred science under a guidance is - You get insights from the experiences of Guru or your mentor. You are benefited by him well developed and stable methodology. He tells you where to focus, hence minimising the distraction of getting lost into lots of informations. Because remember there is lot of information available on astrology, but the trick of how to and when to use it, is missing.
When learning under the guidance of someone doesn’t means you don’t need books. Book are always needed to keep growing. Remember that reading books waters the sapling of wisdom planted by your mentors and Gurus inside you, which grows with time. Therefore reading not just an option, it is a habit essential in growing continuously.
What are the online options to learn astrology ?
Answer : Well, just search it over internet many might pop up. I had this needs of online course on astrology. There were some information readily available on internet, but not enough. And then there were offline classes, which were good but very costly.
